Sign and Display – Trade Show Installers PDF Print E-mail
Trade Show Installers set up and remove exhibits, displays, signage, carpets, support pipes, drapery, and other items for conventions and trade shows at hotels and convention centers. Trade Show Installers are dispatched from A, B, and C lists by the union.  Beginning Trade Show Installers work from the C list.  C list work is generally available only at larger trade shows and conventions or during periods of peak trade show and convention activity. 

To move to the B list a C lister must present proof of having worked 72 hours in the trade.  B listers must complete 84 hours of formal training to move to journeylevel (A list) status.

Requirements for application:

  1. Picture identification (one of the following):
    1. Valid California driver’s license
    2. California ID card
    3. U.S. military identification card; or,
    4. Passport;
  2. High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent; and,
  3. Must be in good health, able to climb ladders, and to lift very heavy objects.

It is mandatory that a Trade Show Installer can be reached by telephone 24 hours a day.  The Installer may provide up to two numbers for this purpose.

Trade Show Installers must bring the following tools when they work:

Claw hammer
Pliers
Small and large flat screwdriver
Rug cutter
Phillips screwdriver
6” to 10” Crescent wrench
Sharp pocket knife
Diagonal or side cutter pliers
Work apron with pockets or tool belt with pouch
Metric and standard Allen wrench set
Chalk line
Small pry bar (“Wonder” bar or flat bar)
30’ tape measure
Markwell L4 or Arrow JT21 staple gun

It is recommended that B listers have in addition a battery-operated drill/driver and a small socket wrench with 5mm and 4mm Allen heads.
