Millwrights install and maintain industrial equipment, machinery, and instrumentation.  They assemble and install such equipment as conveyors, pumps, compressors, generators, loading dock levelers, overhead cranes, and robotic assembly devices.  They work in refineries, manufacturing plants of all types, warehouses, food processing facilities, power plants, and other industrial settings.  Although their work can be heavy, it is often technical, requiring a high degree of precision.

Apprenticeship
The Millwright Apprentice program involves:

  • 4800 hours (usually four years) of on-the-job training
  • 576 hours of shop/classroom instruction

Requirements for application:

  • Must be 18 years old, or 17 years old with written parental consent;
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED;
  • Must present proof of having completed one year of high school algebra or equivalent with a passing grade; and
  • Must be able to read and understand English to comprehend instructions on the job and in related training classes and to ensure personal and coworker safety.

Millwrights are affiliated with the Carpenters Union.  Applications for the Millwrights apprenticeship are given out Monday through Friday except holidays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at:
