Inside Wiremen 

Inside Wiremen install and maintain all raceways, electrical wiring and related systems for distribution of electrical light, heat, power, radio, and signaling. They’re also responsible for the Installation and maintenance of Solar Photovoltaic, Fire/Life Safety, HVAC systems and equipment. They work in new and existing residential, commercial, and industrial buildings and and installations of raceway, wiring methods above and below ground on street and highway lighting, traffic signals, and other outdoor installations above and below ground.  They lift substantial loads, climb, crouch, and work in confined spaces.

Apprenticeship
The Inside Wireman Apprentice program involves:

  • 8000 hours (five years) of on-the-job training
  • 930 hours of classes
  • Applicants selected for indenture will be subject to comprehensive drug testing before job placement.

Requirements for application:

  • At least 17 years of age on applying and 18 or older to be indentured;
  • Photo identification (driver’s license, DMV ID card, or passport)
  • Proof of high school diploma or its equivalent (Non-English diplomas and/or transcripts must be presented with a translation notarized with an embossed notary seal).  Proof of a two-year Associate Degree or higher may be used in lieu of a high school diploma.
  • Evidence of successful completion (grade of D or higher) of one full year (two semesters) of high school algebra or of one post high school (e.g., Adult Ed., Community College) algebra course, or evidence of having passed the NJATC Tech Math Course (www.njatc.utk.edu).  Transcripts in English must be provided on application or by mail if received at the address below on or before the date of application.
  • Must not be colorblind, as wiring is frequently color-coded.
  • Must take a written exam to qualify.
  • Must submit to an oral interview if qualified

Applicants must have a valid California driver’s license at time of indenture.

Military veterans may submit a DD-214 form to verify military training and/or experience if they wish to receive consideration for it.  Applicants with an approved “MOS” or have a minimum of four thousand (4,000) hours of substantiated electrical construction work experience will be scheduled for an oral interview.

Sound and Communication Systems Installer

Sound and Communication Installers install, service, and maintain low voltage electronic and control systems in both new and old construction environments, both indoors and outdoors.  They work with sound systems, audio-video systems, fire and burglar alarms, security and closed circuit television, access controls, telephone and data systems, and computer systems integration.  They lift substantial loads, climb, crawl, crouch, and work in confined spaces.

Apprenticeship
The Sound and Communication Apprentice program involves:

  • 4800 hours (thirty-six months) of on-the-job training
  • 480 hours of classes

Requirements for application:

  1. Photo identification (driver’s license, DMV ID card, or other)
  2. Proof of high school diploma or its equivalent (Non-English diplomas and/or transcripts must be presented with a translation notarized with an embossed notary seal).
  3. Must not be colorblind, as wiring is frequently color-coded.
  4. Must submit to an Aptitude Assessment, including a reading comprehension exam, a basic algebra exam, an oral interview, and substance abuse screening.

Applicants must have a valid California driver’s license at time of indenture.

Applications must be filled out by the applicant in person and not taken off the premises.
