Carpenters perform a great variety of tasks to build residential, commercial and industrial structures of wood, steel and concrete.  They must be physically able to perform all phases of the work, some of which are strenuous.

Apprenticeship
The Carpenter Apprentice program involves:

  • 4800 hours (four years) of on-the-job training
  • 612 hours of shop/classroom instruction

Requirements for application:

  • Must provide one of the following:
    • High school diploma
    • General Equivalency Degree (G.E.D.)
    • Proof of satisfactory completion of a pre-job preparatory course in Carpentry of at least six months; or
    • Proof of on-the-job training or experience of six months or 1500 hours in the construction field.
  • Must be at least eighteen years old in general, but may be seventeen if his or her Apprenticeship Agreement is signed by a parent or guardian.
  • Apprentices must provide their own hand tools, a list of which will be referred to them upon receipt of application.

Applicants should have also a driver’s license, reliable transportation, and at least eighth grade math skills.
