Construction Boilermakers build large tanks, large boilers, and pressure vessels for chemical manufacturers, refineries, water systems, and power plants. Work is commonly done outside, in all types of weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. The size of materials, tools, and equipment used requires excellent physical strength and stamina.

Boilermakers often must work in very tight areas or at great heights.  Work may take them away from home for extended periods of time.  Hours of work are not regular; overtime is common.  The ability to work in a team is essential.

Apprenticeship
The Boilermakers Apprentice program involves:

• 6000 hours (usually four years) of on-the-job training
• Forty-eight related courses of study
• Mandatory classroom training
• Occasional long distance travel for employment or training
• Drug/alcohol testing within forty-eight hours after signing apprenticeship agreement, and testing thereafter on annual, random, reasonable suspicion, and/or cause bases

Requirements for application:

• Proof of birth (one of the following):
• Birth certificate
• Baptismal certificate
• DD214 military record; and,
• High school diploma or equivalency certificate

Applicants with welding experience or training will be given priority in selection.  To be given priority applicants must provide documentation with duplicate copies of welding qualification and/or training.
